As an engineer graduated from a prestigious French university, I silently laughed the first time I heard those who would become my shamanic teachers speak of Cacao as "a strong teaching plant."

 

"This is just chocolate!" I thought with an amused smile.

And yet, a few days later, I was being served my first ceremonial Cacao — by my future teacher.

That night, my heart opened. I felt so much divine, ecstatic love that I understood, in a single moment, the subtle yet powerful gifts of Ix Cacao — the spirit of Cacao.

 

It literally shifted my understanding of this medicine. The engineer in me had her proof. Six months later, I was in Cape Town, living with the shamans to train.

 

Since then, I have served Cacao to hundreds of people. Many came back to me — a week later, a month later, a year later — to tell me how this "simple experience" of drinking a beverage everyone thinks they already know (as I used to think) had actually healed them, boosted them on their path, brought them clarity, support, release.

 

Cacao is underrated, because we associate it with chocolate. During my ceremonies, I combine her power of love, purification, and healing with my alchemical shamanic work — for a transformation that goes far beyond what either could create alone.
